Matthew Baird Architects took on an exciting challenge presented by a young family: designing a distinctive vacation house on the edge of Acadia National Park.
The family envisioned a home with four to five bedrooms and three baths, emphasizing a modest yet harmonious design that would blend seamlessly with the stunning natural surroundings.
This remarkable project recently earned the AIA Maine 2024 Merit Award for Excellence in Architecture.
A pivotal element of the project’s success is the custom windows, manufactured by CAOBA from sustainably harvested mahogany, renowned for its resilience in harsh weather. Installing these substantial hardwood windows was a considerable challenge.
This remarkable home transcends the concept of a vacation house; it stands as a testament to thoughtful design, seamless integration with nature, and the promise of countless cherished memories for the family throughout the years.
